Single-Walled vs Double-Walled Coffee Cups: Which Cup Fits Best?
- Single-walled: more cost-effective, lighter, ideal for short journeys or used with a sleeve.
- Double-walled: superior heat insulation, more premium feel, no sleeve required.
- Both variants can be custom-printed with your logo.
Anyone selling coffee to go will sooner or later face the question: single-walled or double-walled? The difference lies not only in price, but also in your customers' drinking experience.
What Is a Single-Walled Cup?
A single-walled cup consists of a single layer of coated paperboard. It is lightweight, stacks compactly to save space, and is the most economical solution. With hot drinks, however, the exterior heats up quickly – which is why many businesses provide an additional cardboard sleeve.
What Is a Double-Walled Cup?
With a double-walled cup, a second layer of paperboard is wrapped around the inner cup. The trapped air layer insulates: the drink stays hotter for longer, and the customer's hand remains protected. The cup feels sturdier and more premium.

- 12 oz (approx. 300 ml): latte, tea – the best-selling size
- 16 oz (approx. 400 ml): large milk drinks, chai
Our Recommendation
For quality-focused cafés, double-walled cups are usually the better choice: they eliminate the need for sleeves, elevate the customer experience, and provide an excellent surface for printing. Single-walled cups are ideal for events, office settings, or cold beverages.
